National Council
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ASEPA NATIONAL COUNCIL
At the recent Board meeting held in Melbourne on September 10 it was put forward that our Management Committee, which is representative of all state and territory members be renamed to better reflect its status and also the work that is within its remit. The suggested name chage was put to the committee and was accepted. The ASEPA National Council was established. Whilst this may not seem to be significant news, it far better desribes what each state and territory member does on the council. The National Council is the voice and powerhouse of ASEPA as an organisation, it where each association is represented by specialist education principal practitioners who work together to advocate for and progress the issues that affect all members but also individual local issues in each jurisdiction.
As President I would like to provide an update to our National Council membership. I would like to acknowledge and thank Roselynne Anderson (President of QASEL - Queensland Association of Special Education Leaders) for her work on the Council as she moves from Council into her sole role as the Queensland Board representative. This move has allowed two new Queensland members to fill Council positions. I would like to welcome Susan Christensen - Principal of Southport Special School (QLD) and Andrew Thompson - Principal of Redland District Special School (QLD) as our new Council members. Both bring a wealth of experience and expertise to ASEPA and I appreciate their dedication to advocating for students with special needs and their contibution to QASEL and to our national body.
